Job Title: Contracts Manager
Location: Northamptonshire Office (covering Home Counties regions)
Salary: Up to £110,000 per annum + £12k Car Allowance, Private Healthcare, and Quarterly Discretionary Bonus
Hours: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Company Overview:
A leading civil engineering firm specialising in residential and commercial groundworks as well as civil infrastructure projects. Renowned for delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget, the company prides itself on maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Role Overview:
The Contracts Manager will oversee approximately 30 ongoing projects, with additional jobs in the tendering stage. Reporting to the Senior Contracts Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful delivery of projects across the Home Counties region, adhering to health and safety regulations, timelines, and budgets.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Manage and oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Team Coordination: Lead and mentor site teams, including Site Managers and Engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and performance.
  • Client Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Budget Management: Monitor and control project budgets, addressing variations and ensuring profitability.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental standards across all sites.
  • Tendering Support: Collaborate with the estimating and pre-construction teams during the tender process, providing insights and technical input.
  • Program Management: Develop, manage, and review construction programs, ensuring efficient resource allocation and project timelines.
  • Contract Administration: Review and negotiate contracts, ensuring adherence to agreed terms and conditions.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring smooth project delivery.
  • Performance Reporting: Provide regular updates and reports to the Senior Contracts Manager on project progress, issues, and key metrics.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Contracts Manager or similar role within civil engineering, groundworks, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of residential and commercial groundworks as well as civil infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with NEC, JCT, and other standard forms of construction contracts.
  • Excellent understanding of health and safety regulations and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and teams effectively.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Desirable Skills & Attributes:

  • Professional qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (e.g., HND/HNC, degree-level qualification).
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
  • CSCS / SMSTS
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Adaptable and resilient under pressure with the ability to meet challenging deadlines.
